hot646An ex-Philadelphia 76ers guard has agreed to a new deal with an Atlantic Division nemesis.

jolibetESPN's Shams Charania reports that, after being cut by the Sixers, swingman Ricky Council IV has agreed to a one-season deal with the Brooklyn Nets. His agent, Adie von Gontard, relayed the news to Charania.

Council suited up for 73 contests (12 starts), the most of an Sixers player, in the team's cursed 24-58 run last year. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard/small forward averaged 7.3 points on .382/.258/.804 shooting splits, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists a night in those games.

The 23-year-old had been with Philadelphia since going undrafted out of Arkansas in 2023. Council had been on a two-way deal with Philadelphia initially, but saw his deal converted to a standard contract in April 2024.

Part of the reason Council got such extended run was major injuries to backcourt stars Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain. With both those players presumably healthy — plus the advent of No. 3 draft pick VJ Edgecombe, an elite prospect out of Baylor — Council was going to feel a bit of a squeeze on a Philadelphia squad that fancies itself a pseudo contender.

He should get plenty of opportunities to develop on a tanking Brooklyn team in need of help all over the floor.
